Napoleon's Russian Offense
Russia was willing to burn their capital to the ground to force a choice. The French could either go back home or stay and experience what a Russian winter feels like without food or proper clothing. It's one of the worst military decisions in human history made by one of its greatest generals, Clisson's greatest mistake. A fraction of Napoleon's army made it home. Nearly 200,000 horses died. Had 400,000 men and boys died during the campaign? As high as 500,000. I'm sure there are hundreds of legitimate historical and psychological explanations put forth by qualified individuals for why Napoleon invaded Russia. My idiot opinion is sometimes a cigar isn't just a cigar.
