Lewis: I feel like we started to have this very public conversation about what is object to be and who is it serving. The black press and black journals have been the leaders in that conversation, he says. Lewis thinks part of why his story got so much attention was because he was a white trans person; there was an interest in silencing people of color. "I just feel pissed off that people have to die" for newsrooms to talk about issues such as police violence against blacks, he adds.
