Optimism and Dark Goat by Matt Ridley
Dark Goat is a very interesting book. I think that he, like Pincar, is very, very close to David Deutsch. He wrote a whole book on this. The fact that you can solve problems at all is optimism. If it's not prohibited by the laws of physics, then all you need is the right knowledge. All evils are due to insufficient knowledge. So they've got evil, you've got morality. What can be known, what can possibly be known, is physics. Optimism brings all these things in.
