Am, the closest analogy that i can think of is in the first century. There does seem to be some evidence that churches or ally kind of patterned themselves after the synagogue. Then when they got kicked out of the synagogue and went to more gentile areas, then they modelled themselves after what is referred to as a roman voluntary associations. So he connects them to these rous legally recognized associations. He makes a parallel to like how the masons would be recognized today as kind of, like legal a organization. They were already doing that enough with their countercultural values in terms of their religious organization and gathering. They kind of just abided by what rome said is legit.
