Introduction

When we last left Caesar, he had conquered Gaul and the Germanic tribes. Now with a great army standing right behind him, he's ready to take power in Rome. He has problems with coming back for a number of reasons. In Rome, once you give up your magistrici or imperium, you can be prosecuted. There are signs that Pompey and other senators were trying to negotiate with Caesar  to avoid conflict.
