The Evidence for the Ivory-Backed Woodpecker

The ivory-built woodpecker is thought to be extinct, but a new study suggests it's not. The research was based on 70,000 hours of recordings and 472,500 camera hours by 34 trail cameras or recorders captured by camcorders or recorders. It also included 1,000 hours from drone flights; the researchers say they have multiple lines of evidence for their conclusion. But John Sutter says there are only clear images of piliated woodpeckers that look like something resembling an ivory-build Woodpecker.
