I get the sense that a lot of it revolves around the design of mobile experiences. I think open source software has all of the right motivations, right? It's trying to not worry about capturing the user or having incremental income and just tackle the specific problem. So that's why I'm really attracted by it. But there's this concern that several of the projects don't quite tend to have the same polish as more for profit companies. And I've given a couple of talks on that to help the open source community understand how to get started with better UX design.
Scott Jenson has done strategic UX design work for some of tech’s most important companies, including Apple and Google. Now he’s semi-retired and focused on improving the experience of using open source software. In this conversation, we talk about what’s different about open source, how design can make it better, and how designers can benefit from participating in open source projects.
