The Interwoven Nature of State and Vernacular
This chapter was also really interesting for the way that it showed proverb collection and sort of this decontextualized reproduction of proverbs as being also a state project. I think one of the things that really intrigues me is the way the interwoven nature of state and vernacular, particularly in a Chinese context.
