Is Stretching Important?

As a clinician, I noticed that people who stretched were injured more than people who didn't stretch. As the years went by, and I would recommend people not stretch, what I wanted them to do was improve their flexibility. A greater aerobic system improved flexibility because the muscles that control joint movements are those slow twitch red aerobic muscle fibers. And so building the aerobic system meant they had better flexibility if and only if they warm up properly before they're run. It actually develops flexibility as much as stretching would.
