Biden's Speech to Congress Was a Rejection of the Welfare State

The last two Democratic presidents to speak before Congress at the halfway point of their first terms had been thoroughly rejected by voters. The speech that Biden gave last night was still a sort of populist, progressive vision for the economy. But in a post-Trump world, there's less of an appetite for economic austerity on the right than there once was.
