The Importance of Convictions in Theology
JT: All kinds of Christians are all kinds of non-Christians who believe they're Christians or thought they were over the history of the church. So it's really important that we're coming to the appropriate meaning of the text within the framework of orthodoxy, not just coming to our own conclusions about what we think the text says. That's the road to theological heresy. And so often you'll hear theological discussions divided into three different categories. There are essentials. These are the things that would be found in the creeds; there are convictions and preferences.
