In the book Wanting, Gerard talked about the nature of a handshake and trying to describe mimetic desire. If someone extends their hand to shake your hand and you reciprocate, then you both sort of enjoy this ritual together. We're imitating one another in ritual and sort of sharing this emotional charge of whatever I be. In everyday life, we see so much of amesis on social media and you kind of come across it every time there's a new Twitter competitor launched. It seems like every few months there's aTwitter competitor that is talking about Elon Musk or some faction of the Twitter community using as upset and then they go over Mastodon instead.
