The scientific Odyssey is a many part journey into the history and philosophy of science. The gathering of quantifiable evidence through observation and experimentation to reach conclusions extends far beyond those careers and professions traditionally thought of as a result of STEM or science technology. There are five specific reasons one should understand science well enough to be able to engage in its methods and ideas.
