GameStop was heavily shorted by major financial institutions. The price of the stock shot up to nearly $1,500 a share in January 2021. A social media mob then started buying shares and driving down the price. This is like when K-pop stands made it impossible to get tickets to some Trump rally in Nevada by spamming all of the links to get tickets.
