i was not surprised to read that steinbeck conne considered this a play novelet. It's only about a hundred pages in this penguin edition, and the scenes are not very ornate. A lot of the book is just people talking with a little bit of likeo an. All the inner actions are really tied to this one farm that they're on. They want their lives to be like, the best possible versions of the lives that they alreaty have.
