The Relationship Between Tchaikovsky and Vommek

In 1877, Tchaikovsky received a letter from Vommek, who called herself a fervent admirer of his music. She gave him a minor commission which he gladly did, and then she offered to pay him 6,000 rubles per year. This arrangement would be hugely beneficial to both the two artists on a musical and personal level. And that's where the 4th symphony comes in, since Tchaikovksy often described this symphony as our symphony. He dedicated it to her, and luckily for us, he created a detailed program telling us exactly what he was trying to portray in the symphony.
