What Is the Point of Education?

Most people, i suspect in britain, are opposed to the idea of education simply as indoctrination. But if you don't indoctrinate, what do you do? What is the point of education? That's something that has roiled philosophers of education for centuries. When we educate, we are clearly, in some way imposing ideas upon children and ces on them. They may really want to become equipped to have fun, whatever.
