The Importance of Compromise in Congress

When he was elected to Congress in 2000, there were about 150 centrist districts. In those districts, compromise was valued by the electorate. Today, right now, there are about 30 truly competitive districts. 18 are held by Republicans and districts that voted for Joe Biden. 9 are held by Democrats that voted for Donald Trump. The incentive to compromise is contained within those 30 or so districts.
