Lewis says Christianity is not the sort of religion that someone could have just made up. What he's trying to make I think is simply this, this tendency within human beings to reduce reality to what we can cope with. And Lewis wants us to appreciate you mustn't be frightened of complexity. If anything be suspicious of simplicity because that suggests distortion and reduction.
