It's about how much force can you put through the ground for the entire duration of the time your feet are on the ground. As soon as your feet leave the ground, gravity takes over and your takeoff velocity determines how high you're going to jump. And therefore strength and power output through that entire range of motion is now very, very important. You should expect that training with accommodating resistance should be better for improving explosive performance.
