The Thiolacine Population Issue

Thiolacines are thought to have survived in Tasmania for thousands of years. A computer program has predicted that as many as a thousand thiolacines may still exist island wide. The Florida panther is down to a dozen or so animals, and while it does have some inbreeding problems, is still ticking along. Dr David Pemberton estimates that as few as 50 animals could be in the thiolacine population, and that it would still survive.
