Charles the second gave up montrose, his father's finest general and a military hero. He got his alliance with scotland after agreeing to uphold presbyterianism. Charles was a king again, but with no real kingliness. Having signed thep bterian covenant meant that that crown was almost more symbolic than anything. It had about the same power as a crown made of foil, or a burgherking paper crown a few hundred years too early.
