The Queen's Relationship With Margaret Thatcher
The rail unions are getting so much attention now as because they are the last union that really has the power to bring the country to a halt in the same way. Even in other sort of public sector areas, like education, what unions can naturall do disrupt things is pretty minimal. The 19 eighties, the i r a violence was at its height. It was a very violent time. And i think the queen, looking out of the country and yoyo, think her role has been to try to be a glue holding things together.
