How to Make a Roth IRA Contribution for Your Child
The maximum amount that can be moved from a 529 plan to a Roth IRA during an individual's lifetime is $35,000. The rule is that the 529 plan has to have been maintained for at least 15 years and that the Roth IRA receiving the funds must be in the name of the beneficiary of the 529 plan. And so those of you who have old 529 plans are probably the best people to start the process of benefiting from this law.
