Like most armies, the Prussian army largely relied on bread. A starving man can't really fight if he's too weak from hunger. To bake a hundred kilograms of bread, it took 75 kilograms of flour. The Russian soldier did not even receive his bread. He was simply given flour in the field and told that, okay, you gotta make your own shit.
