East Asian Success, Is It an Anomaly of the Theory?
East Asian societies have a long history of top down rule and they already had some psychological inclinations related to that, like temporal discounting. They're prepared to take in new institutions and enforce them. Europe took centuries to develop all of these things like universities, which are now common in Japan and China. That's a Western institution. So, I guess I don't see it doesn't feel like a problem to me.
