The Language of Earning

The gift is the gift of becoming like Christ in baptism. After which point your actions actually become meritorious, they earn things for souls and purgatory. They can earn graces for the people around you. Right. And that's different from ambition. It's different from desiring the gifts of the giver rather than the giver of the gifts. That's a relevant point in spiritual direction.
