In section 113, the stem of Jesse is identified as Christ rather than the rod. Joseph Smith was creatively applying Isaiah 11 to Latter-day Saints. In context, it's all about Christ. The rod is Christ and the branch is Christ. And Matthew recognizes that by putting branch right there in Matthew 2, 23. That's a prophecy of the birth of Christ right there.
