The Effect of Twin Births on Divorce
In 1980, couples who had twins were more likely to be divorced by the time of the census survey. Most divorces are occurring sometime later on after kids are eight or nine years old. It's not just the presence of an additional child, but it's the presence of another child at the same time as another child. That period of time where you have two kids who are born versus separated by, let's say, two or three years probably matters a great deal for stress to the relationship.
