Fires in the early dry season prevent greater amounts of greenhouse gas being released. "Traditional knowledge and practice is a way in which you could reduce greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere," says Dr John-Paul Geddes. Indigenous people reinstated back into landscape meant that lower greenhouse gases were being emitted, he adds.
