Aquinas, the Lieber and the Serus

I think that today, of course, we primarily think of freedom in terms of a negative freedom from and that's very important. On the other hand, there's a notion of positive freedom, which is a freedom for and if people probably know the Great Dominican Survey Pinkers has done amazing work on this distinction. For Aquinas, the human person who is free is free fundamentally if he or she can really become excellent. And so a Lieber, the free person, so Lieber is in liberal or free, that's the sort of agent who can participate in the cultivation of his or her own good and as you say, in the good of other persons.
