Aquinas thinks that the ancients, especially Aristotle, were able to see beyond what they could attain. He says grace overcomes the aporia of natural ethics and the anguish of philosophy. And it's a new form of freedom to do things that people in other times and other eras, even just in daily life, have never done before.
