The UK's Anti-Hate Speech Policy

In Britain there are quite strict laws about what you can say in public if it's racist or homophobic you may find yourself prosecuted. In the States it's more complicated because of the history of First Amendment interpretation which protects extensive freedom of speech. The UK policy is part of, to my mind, a relatively sane minded European policy that many different countries have signed up to in different forms.
