Are We Less Hierarchical Than Other Primates?
There's a lot of debate about this in anthropology. But basically what it looks like is, you know, if you look at the ways that hunter-gatherer communities are structured, there's actually not a firm hierarchy. This maintains social harmony within those communities. They don't want anyone to be too much higher than anyone else. It wasn't until later, historically speaking, after the rise of agriculture, when people could stay in one place and accumulate wealth that tyrants could emerge.
