Samurai - Is There a Moral Code for Samurais?

The samurai class as a whole, in the tokogaa period, there was a huge range in terms of wealth. The low ranking samurai find themselves in a particularly dire situation because they were technically forbidden by law to engage in commerce or in agriculture. Their stipends from their lords were increasingly insufficient, because they didn't keep up with the cost of living. So they often end up over spending and in debt to merchant money lenders. And since they considered merchants lowly, this was particularly painful to them.
