Building Reader Trust in Your Book

A scene needs to do more than one thing. If your action scene is just, you know, will he escape in the car chase or not? That's not a good reason to have an action scene at the beginning of your book. Whereas if the action scene's purpose is to show how this character responds under pressure then we learn about that person too. I would also say that something really intriguing can solve this as well.
