The Evolution of Progressivism

By the 1970s, some historians were saying outright that there was no such thing as progressivism. The argument is something like this, that it was so multifarious. There were so many elements that it is impossible to characterize it as being anything in particular. What we see in it, which really makes it coherent are the elements I mentioned earlier: pragmatic experimental orientation and confidence in expertise.
