The Impact of Mud on Parks

In 2002, the Chicago Park District acquired 16.5 acres of land that was part of the South Works Mill at 87th and Lakeshore Drive. The land after years of abuse was devoid of any vegetation. In order to make the land usable once again, John Marlin had an idea that would help two areas of Illinois. Starting in 2004 and continuing for the next nine years, 168 mud-filled barges used the Illinois River system to travel north to an area near the former South War excite.
