The Importance of a First Hospital Visit for Newborns
The American Academy of Pediatrics and Bright Futures recommends the first hospital visit within about two to three days of hospital discharge, sometimes earlier. By day five, we do expect that most term otherwise healthy babies will have already reached their maximum weight loss. Once they start gaining, we generally expect they're going to gain around 20 to 30 grams per day.
