The Importance of the Emcee in Broadway
I feel like there's a lot that they were able to do now because of things like Midnight Cowboy. And oddly, I think that the ability to do more in the movie allows the Broadway play to open up. The themes through the emcee are much broader now. There's a bigger embrace of bisexuality or fluid sexuality than I think Joel Gray does. He takes a very generic story and makes intensely personal.
