Curious Worldview
The Energy Source of the Gyrotron
For drilling a full sized geothermal borehole which we're saying is around eight to 10 inches in diameter. That requires about a megawatt of microwave power going down the whole. And when you back that out to the total power requirements for this millimeter way of drilling rig, which includes the purge gas injection any mechanical systems say raising and lowering the pipe. This is probably coming out to somewhere around four to five times that megawatt so four to five megawatts it's pretty power hungry for for a drilling rig but it's not an order of magnitude larger.
