I think in the 19 seventies, part of what happened is that our political leaders began a relying on the politics of fear and anger as a way of shaping policy. And so we declare this misguided war on drugs. We say that people who are druged, drug dependent and drug addicted are criminals d we're gongto use the criminal justice system to respond to that problem. That's how you create the most punitive society on the planet. I've represented people wor serving life without parole a for a simple possession of marauana,. taking away the minimum age for trying children as adults. 13 states to day that have no minimum age for tried a child as an adult.
