Guibert's Concept of the Citizen Soldier
In 1792, Guibert wrote an essay on the role of citizen soldiers in warfare. He believed they would be able to act without waiting for orders or supervision. The revolution created a new type of soldier that could fight faster and more effectively. This opened up all kinds of possibilities for battlefield tactics. By the mid-1790s, the French army had gone from dangerously weak to one of the strongest in world history.
