Many of the war heroes if you were in the grand national assembly what pro-caliphate. There was a fear that those military men who were equal heroes to Mustafa Kamal, like Tajikad and so forth would support the Khalifa institutionalizing again as a Khalifa. The British themselves may have been one of the conditions or the hidden conditions that al-Lozan was to turn this into a republic.
