The Importance of Germany in the First World War
After 1900 Wilhelm and the Sultan supported programs to have Ottoman officers train in Germany. The Kaiser also encouraged German industries to invest and build up rails and telegraphs, etc. And this was a significant move not only as a way of building a bridge to the Ottoman Empire but also as a ways of provoking his rivals. By 1914 it was clear that Germany had become the main partner of the Ottomans in Europe.
