Steve Hayward: Your affirmative, race-based affirmative action is what I call a back-end band-aid. He says students don't have to be dependent upon some kind of preferential treatment based on an immutable characteristic in this case, race. "We have to have an educational system that is truly providing equality of opportunity," he says.
