The Power of Showing Instead of Telling

I'm interested in this idea of sort of show don't tell which seems to be a little bit what you're talking about and specifically how effective that can be as a technique when you're dealing with topics where people get uncomfortable. I was thinking about that earlier as I was preparing for this interview and it was making me think of this series of photographs by this photographer named Jeff Shang who did a series of portraits of LGBTQ people in the military before don't ask don't tell was repealed. The subjects of the faces are obscured in every shot but they're still really resonant. And I remember thinking like wow these photographs will be so much more effective than a million essays and changing people's thoughts
