Australia's Airbase Is Getting a $1.6 Billion Upgrade to House the B-52s, and It's a Lot to Invest on Some Aging Aircraft

A $1.6 billion upgrade to an airbase in Sydney is scheduled for 2026. It's raised questions about what else might be on the cards between Australia and U.S. One expert said that there are 70-year-old planes that are being phased out over the next decade. Others, though, including Dr Malcolm Davis from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, say it could stop China using force during territorial disputes.
