The Origins of American Pronunciation
Some people use the same type of pronunciation in middle English. The T sound is voiceless, so we don't activate the vocal folds when we make that sound. We leave them open so they don't vibrate. But when we pronounce the D sound or a similar tap sound, it is voiced. In those types of words, vowel sounds are always voiced.
