I Was Audited Twice, and I'm Glad I Did It, but I'll Be Honest, It Was a Very Unpleasant Experience.

I was audited twice a few years ago. The experience really hammered home for me just like how backward the institution itself is, it was so hard to get people on the phone. It might as well be run by professionals. I don't know what the endgame is for those who just say we're going to have a tax code and make it easy for people to evade their taxes. And no one can mistype your 1040 into the system because if you enter a wrong number that can be a reason you get audited. So it's in everybody's best interest to have an IRS that actually looks at your tax return competently.
